William (Bill) Coats

Bill has practiced law for 41 years and is a member of the American, Texas, and Houston Bar Associations and the State Bar of Texas Construction Law Section. He has also chaired many city and county-appointed task forces over the years related to improving the visual environment of our region.

Bill has been instrumental in forwarding an urban forestation renaissance in Houston, especially on roadways, bayous, parks, and underneath utility lines. He has been honored for his work on forestation projects by national and state forestation organizations. He co-founded both Trees for Houston and the Hermann Park Conservancy. In addition to Scenic Houston, his current quality of life pursuits include serving as a member of the Steering Committee of the Quality of Life Coalition and the Mayor’s Bikeway Task Force and working to establish a Sims Bayou Parkway.
