Carol A. Lewis, Ph.D.

Associate Professor of Transportation Studies, Texas Southern University

In addition to her professorship, Carol is Director of the Center for Transportation Training and Research at TSU. She teaches fundamentals of transportation and urban transportation issues, and she conducts operational and policy-related transportation research. Prior to joining TSU, Carol spent 15 years as manager and director of planning at the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, where she was responsible for citizen participation programs, system-wide bus routing plans, and METRO capital projects including Park & Rides, transit centers, and rail planning.

Carol belongs to a number of professional organizations including HGAC’s Transportation Technical Advisory Committee as well as the Red Cross Transportation Advisory Committee. In 2004, Mayor Bill White appointed her to the Office of Mobility and as Chair of the City Planning Commission, and, at his suggestion, Carol was appointed to the Governor’s Task Force on Emergency Evacuation following the 2005 hurricane season. She also served two years on the board of the Metropolitan Transit Authority as an appointee of former Mayor Lee Brown.
