Scenic Houston’s research, analysis and advocacy aimed at streamlining the City of Houston Sign Code and improving its implementation makes it a better tool to achieve the following:
1) reduce the blight of unpermitted and abandoned signs along public roadways;
2) allow for the most effective utilization of on-premise business signage, through recommendations regarding height, size and placement;
3) a better inventory of billboards to ensure permit compliance and valuation – all billboards within the jurisdiction of the Houston Sign Code should be valued correctly on the local tax rolls (many are not) ; and
4) changes to the height, size, brightness and change-times of digital signage. Research has shown that cities with the most thoughtful and well-regulated sign standards do best in terms of job creation.
